When we found out Klay Thompson used chess to center himself, we knew we wanted to use the Ingmar Bergman classic to help tell the story of his mental resilience for Kaiser Permanente. It only got better when Nicolas Winding Refn signed up to direct and Michael K. Williams joined on as Failure to Klay’s hero.
Then, with the help of illustrator Jonathan Bartlett, we created a movie poster for the film that was as evokotive as the film itself. We then printed the posters and sent them to NBA Twitter, journalists and TV personalities to get ready for the film’s release during the playoffs.
And in their downtime on set, we had lifelong chess fans Michael K. Williams and Klay Thompson play a quick game, while talking about resiliency and mental health.
